Dr George Tambakis
Born in Brisbane, George completed his undergraduate studies in physiotherapy at the University of Queensland before moving to Sydney to study medicine. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2016 with honours and moved to Melbourne to undertake internship and residency at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. George completed his gastroenterology training through St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne and Monash Health, and received his fellowship of Royal Australian College of Physicians in December 2023. George undertook further training in the management of complex inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal ultrasound at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s hospital. He is actively involved in research with a focus on innovative strategies to provide care to IBD patients living in rural Australia.
George has a special interest in gut health and autoimmune disorders of the bowel, including ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, coeliac disease and microscopic colitis.
George consults and performs endoscopy privately through North Lakes Specialist Centre (Moreton Day Hospital) and St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside. George has admitting rights at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside. He works publicly at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital as part of the inflammatory bowel disease team.
